Goodwood Races
2002 saw Goodwood Racecourse celebrate its second centenary, the Duke of Richmond having brought horse racing to his estate in 1802. Today Goodwood is internationally acclaimed as being one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world and the new century sees Goodwood setting ever higher standards of style and quality for racegoers.
High on the undulating Sussex Downs, the course has stunning vistas of gently rolling countryside to the
north and towards the sea and the Isle of Wight to the
south. There are twenty-one days of racing from April to
October, including the world famous five day July
Festival Meeting. This is the pinnacle of Goodwood’s
flat racing calender and is known admiringly and affectionately as
‘Glorious Goodwood’. For
many the festival is the highlight of the summer,
described by The Times as "One of the most
beguiling of racing weeks."
The meeting
attracts the very best entries from the
international world of horseracing, including the stables of Godolphin, Aiden O'Brien and Sir Michael Stoute and a crowd that’s both fashionable and knowledgable. The mood
is relaxed, yet stylish, epitomised by Edward VII’s affectionate
description of it as "a garden party with racing tacked on."
The combination of sublime surroundings and world-class
racing makes Goodwood the perfect place for entertaining. Whether
in a private box or a table looking
straight down the course in the Charlton Hunt Restaurant , you’ll enjoy top class cuisine,
impeccable service and meticulous attention to detail.
